The second golf course of the year is ready to take off on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The best of the best will be fighting each other and most importantly the golf course as you try to take the Wanamaker Trophy home, so let's take a look at our PGA Championship courses for this event. PGA Championship betting types will be posted on our blog tomorrow.
You can watch the PGA Championship Thursday and Friday on ESPN + from 7:10 AM ET at 1:00 PM ET and then ESPN until 7:10 PM ET. On Saturday and Sunday, ESPN + has action from 8:00 AM ET to 1:00 PM ET, then switches to ESPN until 1:00 PM ET. CBS takes control right down to the last putt of the day.
PGA Championship Courses - Favorites
Rory McIlroy (+1,100)
McIlroy won for the first time since November 2019, winning the Wells Fargo Championship for the third time. Now he is back on Kiawah Island where he won eight strokes in 2012. This tournament was played back in August which means the course will now look different and Kiawah Island is much longer than before (it's the longest course where a major championship can be held) . But McIlroy is second only to Bryson DeChambeau in distance, even if he's not terribly accurate. McIlroy proved to be still one of the best in the world when he put it all together. Maybe this week on Kiawah Island?
Jordan Spieth (+1,400)
Spieth finished the T-9 at AT&T Byron Nelson on his seventh top - 10 in his last nine starts, including a win at the Valero Texas Open. It was a great comeback for Spieth who had a COVID-19 attack. While he is incompatible with his driver (143 rd shots scored: off jersey), Spieth is 18 th at SG: Come over, then 47 th at SG: Putting. His confidence is high now, and when that happens, Spieth can be hard to beat in major tournaments.
Justin Thomas (+1,400)
Thomas has been struggling recently as he finished T-26 at the Wells Fargo Championship, his fourth finish between the T-17 and the T-42 since winning the players' championship. However, Thomas is one of the more stable players on the PGA Tour, finishing third in SG: Tee to Green, anchored by a great iron game (second in SG: Approach The Green) which gives him plenty of birdie chances. As is usual with Thomas, if his assumption is made, he may walk away with a win.
PGA Championship Courses - Players
Viktor Hovland (+ 2000)
Hovland enters the tournament with the T-3 one after the other for the Valspar Championship and the Wells Fargo Championship. Following Collin Morikawa's victory at the 2020 PGA Championship, Hovland will be confident in his chances at Kiawah Island. He is fourth in SG: Off The Tee and sixth in SG: Tee To Green. His short play is up and down and so is his putt. But Hovland has a chance to win this weekend.
Collin Morikawa (+ 2800)
Speaking of Morikawa, the champion's defender will forever be remembered for steering the green at 16 hole at TPC Harding Park and then sinking the eagle putt to win their first major championship. Morikawa did not rest on his laurels by winning the WGC-Workday Championship this year, with his final start in the T-7 at RBC Heritage. He leads the PGA Tour at SG: Approach The Green, but his suspect bets (186 th in SG: Putting) can be a problem.
Daniel Berger (+ 2800)
Final round 64 closed T-3s for Berger at AT&T Byron Nelson, and aside from three unsuccessful cuts (including at The Masters), it could be argued that Berger was the best golf player since COVID-19 reboots last year. It trembles around green (399 th (SG: Around The Green), but if he can be decent in that category, Berger might be on Sunday.
PGA Championship Courses - Longshots
Sam Burns (+ 5000)
Burns continued his win at Valspar with a solo second at AT&T Byron Nelson, where he led 54 holes, but faded throughout the episode. Even so, Burns has long been off the jersey, he's 22 n / a at SG: Approach The Green and T - 26 at SG: Putting. For Burns, it's a matter of nerves and seeing if he can control them.
Scottie Scheffler (+ 5000)
Scheffler finished the T-64 at the AT&T Byron Nelson, his fourth straight finish between the T-54 and the T-18 (although he finished the T-8 with Bubba Watson at the Zurich Classic New Orleans team competition). However, Scheffler's irons can be loose (136 th in SG: Approach The Green), and his putter can cool down (116 th in SG: Putting).
Will Zalatoris (+ 5000)
Zalatoris arrived T-17 at AT&T National after he missed a cut at the Wells Fargo Championship. He won the top five places - 26 is in 12th, with two more just outside the top 26. He's solid until he gets to the green one like Zalatoris 123 rd at SG: Putting. However, he showed his nerves at Augusta National when Zalatoris finished second solo behind Hideki Matsuyama. He's not overwhelmed at the moment, and Zalatoris will likely be a popular pick with bookmakers.
