According to Malta Today reports, NetEnt has reached an out-of-court agreement with the General Workers Union (GWU) in Malta.
As part of Evolution's merger with NetEnt, the supplier planned to cut approximately 300 employees in Malta. NetEnt employees in Malta were sent home in early December and instructed to await further information.
At the time, a spokesman reportedly told the Times of Malta that Qormi-based NetEnt would be permanently shut down, leaving all employees "at risk of being laid off."
Last week, GWU announced an industrial dispute with NetEnt and Evolution. The union argued that gambling companies refused to recognize him as a representative of workers at risk of layoffs. The union also argued that companies were breaking collective dismissal laws due to the large number of potential layoffs.
As a result, NetEnt and Evolution were blocked from making any layoffs ahead of the December 17 hearing.
Although no details of the contract were released at the court hearing, it was reported that the union had reached an out-of-court agreement with both traders. Currently, fewer workers are expected to be laid off.
Thanks to the new deal, Evolution will reportedly offer alternative employment to at least 40 employees, while another 60 will be offered alternative employment elsewhere in Malta. Clearance packages will also be upgraded from the original offer.
