Finnish gambling operator Veikkaus has announced that it will introduce mandatory authentication on its terrestrial slot machines from January 12, 2021.
From January, each player will have to authenticate before playing any of the Finnish gambling operator's slot machines. The company announced last year that it will introduce stricter, responsible gambling controls in the future.
"Mandatory authentication is a very effective way to prevent gambling problems and facilitate age limit controls," commented Jari Heino, senior vice president, Channels and Sales.
“Players can also lock their slot games completely from January 12, 2021 if they wish.
“We will provide players with other accountability tools as well. Mandatory authentication will be introduced at Veikkaus lounges in summer 2021. "
Currently, the operator has closed a number of its vending machines at the behest of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. These closings expired on December 15, but a statement on the operator's website said "the situation has not changed."
Veikkaus is active in a total of 16 health districts in Norway with more COVID cases. The operator said if COVID cases declined in these healthcare districts after December 16, then the machines could be reopened.
