The owners of Bet365 and Betfred make up two of the top three UK taxpayers

For the second year in a row, Bet365 CEO Denise Coates and her family topped the UK taxpayer list.

According to the Sunday Times 2021 Tax List, which includes 2020 tax obligations, Coates and her family paid £ 573 million ($ 787.6 million) in taxes for 2020.

But gambling also made two places in the top three on the list, with Betfred owners Fred and Peter Done finishing third.

As their fortune in 2020 was documented as worth £ 1.2 billion, the Done brothers paid £ 191.3 million in tax.

Meanwhile, Bet365 owners fortune has been documented as worth £ 7.17 billion.

In April 2020, Coates also made a £ 10 million grant to North Midlands University Hospitals through its charitable foundation.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected overall UK tax revenues, Bet365's tax numbers have increased for gambling.

However, this year there has been a change in the list building methodology which now includes gambling fees paid by bookmakers.

Last year, the operator's owners paid £ 276m in tax, which has more than doubled this year, while the Done brothers weren't even in the top ten before.
